Can I take the van outside of Portugal?

You can. Countries covered by our insurance include all of the EEA (EU member states, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway), and also Switzerland, Croatia, Gibraltar, San Marino, Andorra and Morocco. 

 

Are the motorways free in Portugal?

The motorways are not free in Portugal. For manual toll roads you'll have to stop to retrieve a ticket. Electronic tolls can be paid via the EASYtoll, TOLL CARD, TOLL SERVICE or Via Verde systems. For a map of the toll roads and information on how to subscribe to the different systems click here. Do not forget to pay within 5 business days after using a toll!

 

IMPORTANT: never use the lane reserved for Via Verde subscribers. If you use the Via Verde lane by mistake, or if you use electronic toll roads without having subscribed to one of the aforementioned systems you can pay the toll (and the fine) on the pagamentodeportagens.pt site (the A27, A28, A22, A24, A25, A17, A29, A13, A41, A42 and A4 cannot be paid on the portal.)

 

Can I wild Camp?

Wild camping is illegal in Portugal, however you will see many people doing it. You may be told to move on in the middle of the night and they may decide to fine you (fines can go from €200 up to €1000!). Overnight caravan parking and wild camping is definitely not tolerated in Natural parks and protected areas.

How do I pay for the rental?

You can pay through wire transfer. We require payment of the full amount due 14 days prior to arrival.

 

Do I need to pay a security deposit?

Yes. We charge a €500 security deposit to be paid when you reserve your camper. This also serves as your booking deposit. The security deposit will be refunded 7 days after the van is returned (this allows time for most unpaid tolls, parking tickets, fines and other charges to reach us.)

 

What is your cancellation policy?

For a full refund of the booking deposit, you must cancel at least 14 days prior to arrival. If you cancel less than 14 days in advance you will receive a full refund of the nightly rate but 50% of the booking deposit will not be refunded. If you cancel less than 24 hours in advance the first night and service fee will not be refunded.

 

Do I have to clean the van on return?

No. We charge a 50€ service fee that covers cleaning and laundering costs. 

 

What are the pick up/drop off terms?

Collection is available  24/7 from our main site in Peniche. If no one is available to meet you, prior to arrival you will receive a code to open the security box where you can access the keys.  The van should be returned by 11.00 am. Returns after 11.00 am are subject to availability and you may incur an additional fee.

 

We offer a pick-up/drop-off service from Lisbon International Airport or another prearranged location for an additional 35€ per trip. 

 

Can I rent the van if I'm under 23?

No, sorry.

 

Can I bring my dog?

We cannot accept dogs.

 

 

Does the van have a bathroom?

We rent a portable chemical toilet for use in the van for an additional €50 (one time fee). This is stored under the back seat when not in use. The toilet must be returned empty and without signs of usage or a €90 cleaning fee will be charged (non negotiable.) The van features a sink and an outdoor shower at the back connected to a 100L fresh water deposit.

 

Do you provide surf boards?

 

Surfboards can be rented for an additional €10 per day.
